About us

The aims of the Portishead Railway Group are:

To lobby on behalf of the residents of Portishead and the communities bordering the A369 for the re-establishment of a Passenger Rail service from Portishead to Bristol.

We believe that there is a very strong case for reopening the branch line. The group was formed by merging two groups – the Portishead Railway Action Group (formed April 2000) and the Portishead Heritage Rail Project (formed Nov 2004). Both groups were working together towards the same goals, the former on the technical aspects and the latter on educational, heritage and publicity aspects. It was felt that to avoid public confusion over the two groups, a merger was desirable and this took place in November 2005.
