The new railway
What will the new railway be like?
- 9 miles (14 km) line from Portishead to Temple Meads.
- 23 minute journey time from Portishead to Temple Meads calling at Pill, Parson Street and Bedminster.
- Trains will run through to the new Brabazon and Henbury stations via Temple Meads from the outset.
- New stations at Portishead and Pill. An hourly service initially.
- 161 parking spaces will be provided at Portishead and 58 at Pill and cycle parking.
- Modern three-carriage diesel train (initially Class 166 as below) with 270 seats. It is hoped that provision will be made for five-carriage (450 seat) trains in future.
- There will be 18 trains per day in each direction
- Trains will operate from around 6 am to around 11.30 pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays there will be 10 trains in each direction.
- Speed of 75 mph from Portishead to Pill, 30 mph from Pill to Ashton Vale.
- The line will have 4 tunnels, 3 viaducts, 12 under bridges, 13 over bridges and a gorge!
- Trains will be new battery powered units within 10 years.
